Today, Congressman Don Bacon from Nebraska and Congresswoman Elvira Salazar of Florida introduced the DIGNITY Act of 2025. This bipartisan bill aims to reform America’s immigration system. They were joined by a group of 20 members including Reps. Veronica Escobar, Mike Lawler, David Valadao, Dan Newhouse, Mike Kelly, Brian Fitzpatrick, Gabe Evans, Marlin Stutzman, Young Kim, Adriano Espaillat, Hillary Scholten, Susie Lee, Adam Gray, Salud Carbajal, Mike Levin, Nikki Budzinski, Laura Gillen, and Jake Auchincloss.

“This bill fortifies border protections,” said Rep. Bacon. “Those who entered America illegally in the past but otherwise working and being a good neighbor will pay a fine and not be eligible for citizenship.”

“The Dignity Act of 2025 is a revolutionary bill that offers the solution to our immigration crisis,” said Congresswoman Salazar.

Congresswoman Escobar emphasized the importance of bipartisan reforms: “Realistic common-sense compromise is achievable… The reintroduction of this legislation includes changes that reflect the challenges in today’s political environment.”

The Dignity Act aims to secure borders without taxpayer dollars through restitution payments and application fees made by immigrants. Congressman Lawler expressed support for the act’s approach to legal immigration: “We must do this by fixing our broken legal immigration system.”

Congressman Valadao stated: “It’s past time for Congress to move reasonable immigration reform.”

“As the grandson of Mexican immigrants,” said Congressman Evans. “Our legislation accomplishes what Latino business owners and community members have been asking for.”

Key provisions include border security funding, mandatory E-Verify systems to prevent illegal hiring, asylum reform ending catch-and-release practices, Dreamer protections granting legal status and paths to permanent residency.

The act has gained support from various sectors including businesses and community leaders. It addresses labor shortages while providing undocumented immigrants an opportunity to live legally under strict conditions.

With growing national concern over immigration issues affecting communities across America due to recent events like riots in Los Angeles or overwhelmed towns nationwide—this legislation seeks balance between compassion with law enforcement measures ensuring future crises are prevented.
