Creighton Baseball lost to Sacramento State 7-4 on March 28, evening the series between the two teams. The defeat puts Creighton’s season record at 12-12, while Sacramento State improves to 11-17.
The outcome was decided early as Sacramento State took a lead with two runs in both the second and third innings. Michael Perazzo hit an RBI single and a bases loaded walk added another run for the Hornets in the second. In the third inning, Cameron Sewell contributed an RBI single and Nikhil Beasley grounded out but brought home another run.
Creighton responded with three runs in their half of the third inning. Chris Baillargeon delivered an RBI single, Rocco Gump drew a bases-loaded walk for another run, and a passed ball narrowed the deficit to one. However, Sacramento State extended their lead again with Perazzo’s two-run double in the fifth inning and capitalized on an error for one more run in the sixth.
In their final chance at bat, Creighton loaded the bases through Baillargeon’s single, Nick Bowron’s walk, and Joe Washburn reaching base on catcher’s interference. Teddy Deters singled to left field to bring home a run before a double play ended Creighton’s comeback attempt.
Eli Nissen started for Creighton but took his second loss of the season after allowing four runs over just over two innings pitched. Andrew Monson earned his first win for Sacramento State by pitching three scoreless innings out of relief.
The series will conclude with a rubber game scheduled for Sunday, March 29 at 1:00 pm.
