Creighton Baseball is set to play #19 Nebraska on March 31, followed by a three-game series against Connecticut as they begin BIG EAST conference play this week.
These games are important for Creighton, which enters as the defending BIG EAST Tournament Champion. Last season, Creighton and UConn shared the regular season crown. The upcoming contests will test the Bluejays’ form as they near the end of a six-game homestand with four wins in their last five games.
The Bluejays have faced Nebraska 153 times, trailing in the all-time series but having won 13 of the last 16 meetings. Against ranked Nebraska teams, Creighton has a record of 5-19. In their recent matchups with Connecticut, Creighton trails overall but secured its first series win over UConn last season. However, they have struggled when playing at Connecticut’s home field.
This week’s game against Nebraska will feature promotional events including a specialty T-shirt giveaway and pregame honoring of Tom O’Gorman. The Bluejays currently hold an 8-4 record in one-run games this year and have demonstrated resilience with several walk-off victories during the season.
On offense, Ben North and Nate McHugh lead Creighton’s lineup with batting averages of .368 and .320 respectively. Freshmen Nick Bowron (.308) and Joe Washburn (.300) have also contributed significantly since moving into starting roles on the right side of the infield over the past ten games. Pitchers Jack Pineau and Matt Goldenbaum have solidified themselves as ace starter and closer; Pineau delivered seven scoreless innings recently while Goldenbaum lowered his ERA to 0.71.
Nebraska comes into Monday’s matchup riding a six-game win streak after sweeping Indiana with strong offensive performances led by Dylan Carey (.397 average) and Mac Moyer (.413). Meanwhile, Connecticut opened conference play by taking two out of three from Xavier at home behind pitching from Charlie West and Cayden Suchy along with offensive contributions from Chris Polemeni (.374) and Jackson Marshall (eight home runs).
As Creighton opens its thirteenth BIG EAST campaign—having rebounded from opening losses to win each series in both 2024 and 2025—the team looks to continue its recent success at Charles Schwab Field Omaha where it holds a strong home record.
