Creighton Baseball is preparing for a challenging week as the team returns home to face Omaha on March 18 before traveling to Florida for a three-game series against the Miami Hurricanes starting March 20. The Bluejays are coming off a successful road trip, having swept Tulane in three closely contested games.
This stretch of games is significant for Creighton, which looks to build momentum following its recent victories. The Bluejays have demonstrated resilience, winning four of their last five contests and improving their record to 8-8. Their latest sweep against Tulane included an extra-inning win and late-game heroics, with Shea Wendt securing the final outs in the decisive game.
Against Omaha, Creighton holds a historical advantage, leading the all-time series 64-36. In recent matchups since 2012, Creighton has won 19 out of 28 games. The Mavericks (7-10) recently ended a losing streak by sweeping North Dakota State, showing strong pitching performances from Camron Teinert and Tanner Fortsch.
The upcoming series with Miami marks the first meeting between the teams since 1989. Historically, Creighton trails Miami with one win, five losses, and one tie in their previous encounters. Miami enters the matchup with a 14-6 record but recently lost two out of three games to Duke.
Several players have contributed to Creighton’s recent success. Nate McHugh leads the team with four home runs while Isaac Wachsmann follows closely behind with three. Freshmen Joe Washburn and Nick Bowron have also made an impact in limited starts. The pitching staff has shown improvement, holding opponents to low run totals during key stretches.
Head coach Mark Kingston will return to Miami for this series—a place where he previously served as an assistant coach from 2000-2001 and was part of a national championship-winning squad. As Creighton continues its season, it aims to maintain its strong performance in close games; so far this year, the Bluejays have played ten one-run contests and won six.
