Creighton Baseball won the opening game of its series against Sacramento State 6-2 on March 27, moving to a season record of 12-11 while the Hornets dropped to 10-17.

The game saw Sacramento State take an early lead in the third inning with two unearned runs, capitalizing on a wild pitch and an errant throw. The Hornets added another run using consecutive sacrifice bunts to make it 2-0.

Creighton quickly answered as Rocco Gump drew a walk, stole second base, and scored on an RBI single by Joe Washburn. Teddy Deters then hit his first home run of the season, putting Creighton ahead at 3-2. Ben North extended the lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Later, Deters contributed further with a two-run double down the left field line off Sacramento State’s third baseman Jacob Poturnak.

Jack Pineau started for Creighton and earned the win by holding Sacramento State to two unearned runs over seven innings. Reliever Jimmy Burke pitched two scoreless innings to secure the victory for Creighton. On Sacramento State’s side, starter Carson Timothy allowed four runs over four innings and was charged with his second loss of the season.
