The Creighton Bluejays women’s softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Kansas City on March 10 at the Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. The Bluejays took the first game 6-2 and followed with a 9-0 shutout in the second game.
These victories improved Creighton’s season record to 11-14, while Kansas City dropped to 8-14. The results highlight a strong performance by Creighton as they prepare for their upcoming home games.
In the opening game, Creighton built an early lead by scoring one run in the third inning and five more in the fourth. Key contributions included RBI singles from Erika Perez and Zoey Greenwood, along with runs scored due to defensive errors by Kansas City. Freshman pitcher Audrey Gilman earned the win after allowing just one run on three hits over four innings. Perez led offensively with three hits and an RBI, while Avery Barnard added two hits.
The second game featured freshman Ava Drehs pitching a two-hit shutout as Creighton secured a run-rule victory. Lily West contributed an RBI double in the first inning, helping establish an early lead that grew throughout the contest. Greenwood drove in two runs with a double and later scored on West’s single. The Bluejays capitalized on walks, errors, and wild pitches to extend their advantage.
After playing their first 25 games away from home, Creighton is set to open its new softball stadium with a three-game series against Providence beginning Friday at 5 p.m.
