Creighton Baseball will begin a three-game home series against Sacramento State starting March 27, according to an announcement on Mar. 26. The games will be played at Charles Schwab Field Omaha, with matchups scheduled for March 27 at 6:00 pm, March 28 at 2:00 pm, and March 29 at 1:00 pm.
The upcoming series marks the second meeting between the two teams; Sacramento State won their only previous encounter in the 2012 season with an 11-2 victory. Creighton enters this homestand with a record of 11-11 after earning two midweek wins and is currently on its longest home stretch of the season.
The Bluejays’ offense is led by Ben North, who holds a .393 batting average, and Nate McHugh at .341. As a team, Creighton is hitting .271 but continues to work on pitching consistency with a team ERA of 6.68. Head coach Mark Kingston recently celebrated his milestone 500th career win following Creighton’s walk-off victory over Omaha on March 25. Kingston now has a career record of 501-346-1.
Sacramento State arrives in Omaha with a record of ten wins and sixteen losses after splitting recent games against Kansas. The Hornets have posted a team batting average of .256 and are led offensively by Erick Dessens (.319) and Jace Jeremiah (.316). On the mound, Carson Timothy leads their rotation with an ERA of 2.96 as part of their overall staff ERA of 5.04.
Both teams have faced challenging travel schedules early in the season, including trips to Baton Rouge where Sacramento State won two out of three games against LSU while Creighton lost its matchup there. The Bluejays have traveled over thirteen thousand miles during the opening five weeks but have found success at home so far this year with four wins out of five home contests.
