Creighton lost to Miami 9-4 on March 20 after giving up five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning during their series opener in Coral Gables, Florida. The defeat brought Creighton’s record to 9-9, while Miami improved to 16-6.
The game was closely contested through the first six innings, with both teams trading runs in the first, fourth, and fifth frames. Creighton started strong with back-to-back singles from Rocco Gump and Teddy Deters, followed by an RBI single from Ben North. Miami responded quickly with a solo home run by Daniel Cuvet.
In the fourth inning, Connor Capece hit an RBI double for Creighton, but Miami answered with an RBI ground out from Michael Torres. The pattern continued into the fifth when Lew Rice drew a leadoff walk and Deters delivered an RBI double for Creighton. However, Cuvet tied it again for Miami with his second home run of the game.
Trailing by one run entering the seventh inning, Nate McHugh singled and later scored on another RBI double by North to tie the game at four. In the bottom half of that inning, Miami capitalized on three walks, a hit batter, a single, and a three-run double to take control of the game.
JT Adams took the loss for Creighton after allowing two runs in just one-third of an inning during that pivotal seventh frame. Lyndon Glidewell earned the win for Miami by recording the final out of that same inning.
The two teams are scheduled to continue their three-game series on Saturday, March 21 at 5:00 pm Central Time.
