The Creighton men’s tennis team lost to Butler, 5-2, on April 5 at the Indianapolis Racquet Club in Indianapolis. The defeat brings Creighton’s season record to 11-12 and their BIG EAST conference record to 2-3. Butler improved its overall record to 8-13 and matched Creighton with a 2-3 mark in league play.

This result is significant as both teams are competing for position within the BIG EAST standings, with each seeking momentum late in the season. The loss affects Creighton’s chances of improving their ranking ahead of upcoming matches.

Creighton began the contest strongly by winning the doubles point. Zachary Kuo and Mathis Dahler won at No. 3 doubles with a score of 6-2, while Yuma Daijima and Kirtan Patel secured a victory at No. 2 doubles, finishing 6-4 to clinch the first point for Creighton.

However, Butler took control during singles play by winning five out of six matches in straight sets. Patel was the only Bluejay to secure a singles win, defeating his opponent at No. 2 singles with scores of 6-2 and 6-4—marking his career’s ninety-ninth win.

Looking ahead, Creighton will travel for another BIG EAST matchup against Marquette on Friday, April 10.
