Seton Hall responded in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single from Andrea Perez, narrowing the gap to two runs. However, Ava Drehs closed out the game for Creighton.
Seton Hall opened scoring in the first inning after a single by Angelina Benitez led to a run following a fielding error and subsequent hits by teammates. “Angelina Benitez led off the frame with a single down the left field line, which got away from Greenwood in left, allowing Benitez to reach third. Following a flyout from Katey Brennan, Sophia DeMarco lined an RBI single into the left centerfield gap to put the Pirates on the scoreboard. Naya Martinez and Erin Howard followed with a walk and a single to load the bases for Carolina Hobbes, who delivered a sacrifice fly to deep center to give the Pirates a 2-0 edge.”
Creighton answered with three runs in the top of the second inning as Erika Perez hit her fourth home run of the season after Kaelan Schultz walked and Vandewater singled. “Senior Erika Perez then launched her team-high tying fourth home run of the season to put the Jays out in front 3-2.”
In the fourth inning, Ella Dalton hit a three-run home run for Creighton following walks drawn by Schultz and Mayhue.
Seton Hall matched Creighton’s output by scoring three runs in their half of the fourth inning and another in fifth. The Pirates loaded bases before Sophia DeMarco’s two-run single brought them within one run.
