The Creighton softball team secured a series sweep over Seattle with a 12-6 victory on March 28 at the Creighton Softball Stadium.
The win brings Creighton’s record to 18-18, while Seattle falls to 14-18. The Bluejays’ offense was led by sophomore Tara Vandewater, who had two hits and four runs batted in. Freshman Zoey Greenwood also contributed significantly, going two-for-five with two runs scored and three runs driven in. Relief pitcher Landrie Harris earned her second win of the season after allowing just two runs on five hits over 3.2 innings.
Seattle started strong as Mikee Morris hit a leadoff home run in the first inning for an early lead. However, Vandewater responded in the bottom half with a three-run homer off the left field foul pole, putting Creighton ahead. The Redhawks briefly regained the lead in the second inning before Greenwood’s two-run double restored Creighton’s advantage.
The Bluejays continued to build their lead through subsequent innings, including key contributions from Keegan Mayhue, Erika Perez, Ella Dalton, Ashten Pierson, and Barnard. By the end of the fifth inning, Creighton had extended its lead to seven runs following RBI singles from Greenwood and Vandewater along with a Seattle fielding error.
Seattle managed one more run in their final at-bat on an RBI single from Aurora Zapeda but could not close the gap further.
Looking ahead, Creighton will face Nebraska on Tuesday, March 31 at home for a “Blue Out” event scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
