The Creighton softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against Providence on March 14 at the Creighton Softball Stadium. The Friars came from behind to win the first game 8-7 and secured a 6-3 victory in the second game.

The losses ended Creighton’s program record 10-game regular season BIG EAST win streak. The Bluejays now hold a 12-16 overall record and are 4-2 in BIG EAST play. Providence improved to 8-11 overall and 2-1 in league action with the two wins.

In the opening game, Creighton built an early lead, scoring six runs in the first two innings. Lily West contributed an RBI single and later hit her first grand slam of the season. However, Providence responded with three runs in both the third and fourth innings, tying the score at six after a home run by Julia Renny. Although Creighton briefly regained the lead in the fifth inning, Providence’s Elisa Smith hit a two-run double in the sixth to secure an 8-7 win for the Friars.

Game two saw Providence take an early lead before Creighton answered with three runs, including a two-run home run by Tara Vandewater. The Friars reclaimed control with runs in the third and sixth innings, ultimately winning 6-3. Landrie Harris took the loss for Creighton after allowing four runs over three innings.

Creighton is scheduled to return to action at home against Iowa State on Wednesday, March 18.
