Freshman pitcher Audrey Gilman led the Creighton softball team to a 7-0 victory over Butler on April 3, securing a series win in Indianapolis.

The result brings Creighton’s season record to 20-20 and improves their standing in BIG EAST play to 9-3. Butler now holds a record of 17-12 overall and also stands at 9-3 in conference games.

Gilman delivered her first career shutout during her nineteenth start, allowing only three hits while striking out two batters and walking three. The Bluejays’ offense supported her effort with eleven hits, including two doubles. Senior Ella Dalton matched her career high by driving in four runs. Teammates Avery Barnard, Kaelan Schultz, and Keegan Mayhue each contributed two hits.

The game remained scoreless through the first two innings as both teams’ pitchers held firm. Creighton broke through in the third inning after taking advantage of a Butler error and Emma Bailey’s pair of stolen bases. Ashten Pierson’s sacrifice fly brought home the first run for the Bluejays.

Creighton added three more runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by Dalton’s two-run double into right centerfield. In the sixth inning, Perez hit an RBI double before scoring on another double from Dalton that brought in two more runs for a final score of 7-0.

With this performance, Gilman earned her tenth win of the season as she closed out the game without allowing any runs from Butler.

Creighton’s next matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 at home against South Dakota at Creighton Softball Stadium.
