Creighton University will play against West Virginia University in the semifinals of the College Basketball Crown on April 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Central and will be broadcast on FOX, with live streaming available at foxsports.com/live.
The matchup is significant as Creighton looks to advance to the tournament final, where they would face either Oklahoma or Baylor later that day. A win would also allow Creighton to even its season record and achieve back-to-back victories for the first time since December.
Historically, Creighton and West Virginia have played each other twice, splitting their previous meetings. Their last encounter was a close contest during the NCAA Tournament in 2005, which West Virginia won by two points. Saturday’s game also marks the latest date ever for a Creighton men’s basketball game.
This semifinal appearance comes during a period of transition for Creighton’s program. Head coach Greg McDermott recently announced his retirement following this tournament run after leading the Bluejays for sixteen seasons. Alan Huss is set to take over as head coach after McDermott’s departure. During his tenure, McDermott has guided Creighton through multiple conference titles, postseason appearances—including ten NCAA Tournament trips—and helped produce several NBA draft picks and All-Americans such as Doug McDermott.
The team has relied heavily on newcomers this season, who have contributed more than two-thirds of its total points. Recent performances from players like Nik Graves and Josh Dix have been notable; Graves scored 25 of his season-high 28 points after halftime in Thursday’s win over Rutgers and reached several individual milestones.
Looking ahead, Creighton’s postseason consistency places it among only eleven schools nationally with ten consecutive postseason appearances (excluding pandemic cancellations). The university plans to honor Coach McDermott with a banner ceremony next season at CHI Health Center Omaha.
