The Creighton women’s tennis team lost to Xavier University 4-0 on March 11 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The defeat brings Creighton’s season record to 10-4 and their conference record to 2-2, while Xavier improved to 6-7 overall and began BIG EAST play with a win.

This match was important as it marked another test for Creighton against the five-time defending league champions. Xavier secured the doubles point by winning matches at both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, each by a score of 6-2.

In singles competition, Xavier extended its lead with Madeleine Rexroat’s victory on court two after Creighton’s Mithila Dixit retired due to injury. Ella DeFord then defeated Annika Elvestrom on court four (6-1, 6-2), and Clara Owen clinched the dual for Xavier with a win over Alem Cote on court five (6-4, 6-3).

“Xavier showed why they are the five-time defending champs of our league,” said head coach Tom Lilly. “We had our moments but just not enough at the right times. We will hope to get good news on Mithila’s injury early next week.”

Creighton is scheduled to conclude its spring break trip in Florida with a doubleheader against Calvin University and East Texas Baptist University beginning at 2 p.m. Central Time on Thursday.

The results highlight both teams’ performances as they continue through their conference schedules.
