The Creighton women’s tennis team won a close match against St. Thomas, 4-3, on March 28 at the Hanscom Tennis Center in Omaha.
The result marked a strong performance for Creighton, improving their season record to 12-4 while St. Thomas dropped to 5-9. The match was also significant as it took place on the Bluejays’ senior day.
Creighton started with momentum by clinching the doubles point after victories at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. Senior Annika Elvestrom and freshman Karli Vo secured a decisive win on court three, while sophomores Olivia Minikel and Sophie Schwartz delivered another victory at the top spot.
In singles play, Elvestrom continued her strong showing with a straight sets win that pushed her career total into the program’s top 25 with her ninety-fourth victory. Sophomore Alem Cote followed up by earning her ninth win in ten matches, extending Creighton’s lead to three points before St. Thomas responded with a singles victory of their own.
The overall dual was clinched for Creighton when Livia Rodrigues Daud notched her eighth consecutive singles win in straight sets at No. 6 singles. Although St. Thomas claimed wins on the top two courts late in the match, it was not enough to overcome Creighton’s lead.
Looking ahead, Creighton will conclude its home schedule by hosting South Dakota on Wednesday, April 1 at Hanscom Tennis Center.
