The Creighton women’s tennis team defeated Providence 7-0 on March 10 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida, during its first spring break match.

This win brings Creighton’s record to 10-3 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST play. The team has now achieved a 56-10 record in matches played in Florida. Providence’s loss drops them to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Head coach Tom Lilly said, “This was a good start to our outdoors season. I thought we competed well and will need to step it up again tomorrow against the defending BIG EAST conference champs.”

Creighton secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Sophie Schwartz and Alem Cote won their match at No. 2 doubles, while Teresa Tran and Mithila Dixit clinched the point at No. 1 doubles after Providence evened things up with a win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play, Creighton won all six matches in straight sets. Dixit earned a quick victory at No. 2 singles, followed by Tran’s win at No. 3 singles and Annika Elvestrom’s match-clinching result at No. 4 singles. Schwartz, Livia Daud Rodriguez, and Cote completed the sweep with wins at their respective positions.

The Bluejays are scheduled to continue their Orlando trip with a match against Xavier on Wednesday.
