Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 21, 2025, addressing topics ranging from social media commentary to NATO’s history and space exploration.
In one tweet at 15:30 UTC, Bacon commented on an unspecified post, stating, “Thus far the most ignorant post of the day. Plenty of time though…”
Shortly after, at 15:34 UTC, he discussed NATO’s only invocation of Article 5 following the September 11 attacks. He wrote, “The only time NATO declared Article 5 and went to war was after 9/11 in defense of America. A lot of NATO soldiers were killed in defense of America.”
Later that afternoon at 18:24 UTC, Bacon posted a brief message referencing science fiction: “Space, the final frontier…”
Bacon has served as a member of Congress for Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
NATO’s invocation of Article 5 after September 11 marked its first and only use; it led to military operations by alliance members alongside U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
