Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district and retired Air Force brigadier general, posted a series of tweets on July 24, 2025, commenting on Russian military losses and the importance of credibility in Air Force assessments.
In one post, Bacon stated, “A million Russian casualties and a third of Russia’s bomber fleet destroyed later… https://t.co/Ogn13eLQHc” (July 24, 2025). He followed this with another tweet that included only a link: “https://t.co/A6tgzdbu8p” (July 24, 2025).
Later the same day, Bacon highlighted the need for independent oversight in Air Force matters: “‘Let’s make sure that we have some outside experts working with the Air Force,’ said Bacon, a retired Air Force brigadier general. ‘We want to make sure there’s credibility and, whatever results come out, that we’ve done total due diligence.’ The Omaha-based representative” (July 24, 2025).
Bacon has served as Nebraska’s 2nd district representative since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, he graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and also attended the University of Phoenix.
