Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, recently shared his views on various legislative matters through a series of tweets. Bacon, who succeeded Brad Ashford in Congress and was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, currently resides in Papillion.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Bacon addressed tax policy by stating “I’m not going to raise everyone’s taxes by 20% to include small businesses. And, the demagoguery and falsifications were not persuasive.” This tweet highlights his stance against increasing taxes across the board.
In another tweet posted shortly after on the same day, he expressed support for work requirements within social welfare programs: “I voted for work requirements for healthy adults without small children, and to audit the rolls to remove ineligible and illegal people from Medicaid. Most Americans support this. Why does the left devalue work?” This reflects his advocacy for accountability and eligibility verification within Medicaid.
Later that day, Rep. Bacon highlighted efforts to enhance conditions for military personnel with a significant legislative proposal: “Our brave servicemembers are our most valuable resource. The One Big, Beautiful Bill invests $9B to improve servicemember pay, housing, healthcare, and quality of life. Today @HouseGOP & @HASCRepublicans voted to support those who defend us.” This bill underscores his commitment to improving living standards for service members.
