Rep. Don Bacon, who has represented Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed a range of political topics on his official Twitter account.
On August 21, 2025, Bacon commented on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, stating: “The “roots” of this crisis is Putin and Lavrov want Ukraine to be a vassal state. Both have a total disregard for Ukrainian culture. Ukraine deserves to be fully sovereign. Ukrainians want democracy, free markets and to be Allied with the West.”
Later that day, Bacon referenced tax policy analysis by an independent research organization: “.@TaxFoundation did great work showing tax savings by county from the One Big Beautiful Bill. Taxpayers will save on average $4,000 in Douglas County, $3,600 in Saunders County, & $3,400 in Sarpy County annually.” The Tax Foundation is known for its nonpartisan studies on federal and state tax policies.
On August 22, 2025, Bacon posted about redistricting practices in Illinois: “This is President Obama’s home state’s gerrymandering.” The issue of gerrymandering—manipulating electoral district boundaries for political advantage—has been widely debated across many states.
Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He earned a BA from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and later attended the University of Phoenix. He succeeded Brad Ashford as Nebraska’s representative beginning with the 2017 term.
