Rep. Don Bacon, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, recently shared his thoughts on significant historical and contemporary issues through a series of tweets.
On June 19, 2025, Rep. Bacon reflected on Juneteenth by commemorating the day Union troops arrived in Texas on June 19, 1865. He highlighted this as a “monumental step toward ending the evil institution of slavery” and noted that six months later, the 13th Amendment was ratified. He remarked that this advancement in justice is something “we continue to press forward with today.” (“Today we commemorate Juneteenth…”)
Later that day, Rep. Bacon reminisced about his experience at Officer Training School in 1985 during a Throwback Thursday post. He recalled common phrases from that time such as “You’re burning my daylight,” “mind over matter and if you don’t it won’t matter,” and “timing is everything and life sucks.” He also mentioned being part of Class 85-16, marking the occasion as having occurred “40 years ago.” (“TBThursdays: Officer Training School…”)
In another tweet on June 19, he addressed recent geopolitical tensions by noting that due to war conditions, airspace over Israel was closed which prevented his delegation from entering the country. Despite this setback, he reported an opportunity to speak with Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar for updates. Rep. Bacon emphasized the threat posed by a nuclear-armed Iran to both Israel and America while acknowledging Israel’s operational prowess during these times of conflict. (“Because of the war the airspace was closed…”)
Don Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. His academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University obtained in 1984 followed by further education at the University of Phoenix.
