Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, recently shared reflections and tributes on social media covering topics from Ukrainian history to the commemoration of fallen U.S. service members.
On August 25, 2025, Rep. Bacon commented on his recent reading about Soviet history, writing, “I just finished this great book that showed how Stalin systematically & intentionally starved to death 4 million Ukrainian peasants & murdered Ukraine’s intellectual elites. Putin shares Stalin’s disdain for Ukraine, & the Ukrainians know what living under Russian rule is like.”
The following day, he honored the memory of American military personnel killed in Afghanistan four years prior: “We will always remember their ultimate sacrifice at Abbey Gate four years ago. Our hearts are with the families who lost a dear loved one. Cpl. Daegan Page was a young Marine from Nebraska who was killed while protecting others.” Later that same day, Bacon posted a brief remark: “There’s some whack-a-doodles out there.”
Don Bacon has served as Nebraska’s representative in Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and resides in Papillion. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
