Creighton senior Josh Dix was named the recipient of the 2026 BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award, according to a March 9 announcement. Dix is the third Creighton player to earn this honor since the team joined the conference thirteen seasons ago, following Mitch Ballock in 2021 and Steven Ashworth in 2024.
The BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award recognizes players who are strong contributors both on and off the court. Winners are nominated and selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Dix, a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, is completing his first season with Creighton after transferring from Iowa. He has started all 31 games this season, leading the team with an average of 12.7 points per game and contributing 3.7 rebounds per game. Dix also leads Creighton in free throw percentage at .870 and is second on the team with 60 three-pointers made. Within the conference, he ranks sixth in minutes per game, eleventh in three-pointers per game, and seventeenth in points per game.
During the regular-season finale against Butler, Dix scored a season-high 22 points and also recorded a notable performance with 21 points in a win over No. 5 Connecticut.
Other awards announced include Defensive Player of the Year for St. John’s Zuby Ejiofor, Most Improved Player for Villanova’s Tyler Perkins, and Sixth Man Award for Villanova’s Devin Askew. The remaining individual awards—Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete—will be announced on Wednesday, March 11.
Creighton earned the No. 5 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Tournament presented by JEEP and will face Seton Hall in Thursday’s quarterfinal round at 1:30 p.m. Central.
