Keegan Mayhue, a freshman on the Creighton University softball team, has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career. The announcement was made by the conference on Monday.
Mayhue, who is from Elm Mott, Texas, started all five games for Creighton at the Colorado Classic. She recorded a .313 batting average with five hits in 16 at-bats. During the tournament, she hit one double and led her team with three home runs and nine runs batted in (RBI), finishing with a .938 slugging percentage.
In the opening game against Northern Colorado, Mayhue went 1-for-3 at the plate. Her only hit was a three-run home run that helped Creighton overcome an early deficit.
She continued her strong performance by going 3-for-5 in another game against Northern Colorado. In that contest, she achieved a career-high six RBI and hit two home runs for the first multi-home run game of her collegiate career. She began with her first grand slam to give Creighton its initial lead of the day and later added a solo home run and an RBI double.
Mayhue concluded her weekend by going 1-for-3 with a run scored during Creighton’s first meeting with Colorado State on Saturday afternoon.
The Bluejays will return to action this weekend as they begin BIG EAST conference play on the road against Seton Hall.
