Senior Lily West reached a milestone by becoming the 11th player in Creighton University softball history to achieve 200 career hits. In the team’s BIG EAST opener against Seton Hall, West contributed significantly, going 5-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and three runs scored. This performance also pushed her past 100 career RBI, making her only the 13th player in school history to reach that mark. West is now tied for sixth on Creighton’s all-time hits list with Ellen Homan and Wendy Moon at 203 hits.
Erika Perez also had a standout game for Creighton, finishing 4-for-5 with a career-high seven RBI. She was just one home run short of hitting for the cycle. Freshmen Zoey Greenwood and Keegan Mayhue each added three hits to help Creighton tie its school record with 22 hits in the game and score 20 runs for the second time this season.
Junior pitcher Brooklyn Patchen earned her third win of the year, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out three over six and one-third innings.
Creighton took an early lead but fell behind after Seton Hall scored five runs in the first inning. The Bluejays responded with seven runs in the second inning to regain control of the game. Additional scoring bursts came in later innings, including a four-run third and a seven-run seventh inning.
Seton Hall managed four runs late in the game but could not close the gap as Creighton secured a 20-10 victory. With this win, Creighton’s record improved to 7-14 overall and 1-0 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall dropped to 6-8 overall and remains winless in conference action.
The teams are scheduled to meet again on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.
“West became just the 11th Bluejay in program history to record 200 career hits and moved into a tie with Ellen Homan (2011-14) and Wendy Moon (1991-94) for sixth on Creighton’s career hits list with 203 hits,” according to Creighton Athletics. “In addition, West became just the 13th player in school history to record 100 career RBI.”
