Omaha Softball was defeated by No. 10/5 Nebraska on Sunday, with a final score of 10-2 in Lincoln. Katherine Johnson hit a two-run home run for Omaha, marking her fifth homer of the season. Despite this effort, Nebraska responded with three home runs during the game.
The Huskers completed a sweep of the two-game weekend series, having also won 4-1 on Saturday. Omaha, now holding a 14-6 record, created scoring opportunities in each of the first three innings but struggled to convert those chances into runs.
In the opening inning, Omaha had runners on first and second with one out when Johnson singled to right field. Rylinn Groff attempted to score from second base but was thrown out at home plate. The following inning saw Alyson Edwards and Ava Rongisch reach base with singles, but Omaha could not capitalize as a popout and groundout ended the threat.
Nebraska broke the deadlock in the bottom of the second inning by scoring five unearned runs. This included back-to-back two-out, two-run home runs from Jordy Frahm and Hannah Camenzind.
Johnson’s home run in the third brought Omaha within three runs at 5-2. Another opportunity arose in the fifth when Taylor Sedlacek led off with a double; however, Nebraska extended its lead by adding four runs in that inning and another in the sixth.
Both Johnson and Edwards recorded two hits each for Omaha. Grace Hornbuckle started for Omaha and took the loss, moving her season record to 3-2.
Omaha is scheduled to travel next weekend to St. George, Utah, where they will begin a tournament against BYU on Friday.
