Omaha Baseball lost to Northern Colorado, 8-7, in a 10-inning game on March 22 at Tal Anderson Field. The Mavericks mounted a dramatic comeback in the ninth inning but ultimately fell short as the Bears secured the win.

The close contest marked the second straight extra-inning matchup between the two Summit League teams. Omaha had previously defeated Northern Colorado, 12-11, in an 11-inning game. With this result, Northern Colorado took two out of three games in the series.

In Sunday’s game, Omaha trailed 7-3 with two outs in the ninth before Hayden Lewis hit an RBI single and Edoardo Cornelli followed with a two-run single. A wild pitch then allowed pinch runner Eli Hoerner to score and tie the game at 7-7, sending it into extra innings. In the top of the tenth, Northern Colorado scored what would be the winning run. Omaha threatened again with runners on base, but Henry Zipay was thrown out at home plate after a single by Nick Riggs.

Brady Hudson earned his second win of the season for Northern Colorado while Logan Borboa picked up a save. Riggs took the loss for Omaha. Four Mavericks recorded multi-hit games: Jackson Trout went 2-for-6 with his team-leading seventeenth double; Zipay and Tyler Bishop each went 2-for-4; and Lewis finished 2-for-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Omaha will play Creighton at Charles Schwab Field Omaha on Tuesday evening before resuming Summit League play against St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota over the weekend. The Mavericks will return home to Tal Anderson Field on April 10 for a series against Oral Roberts.
