Omaha Baseball secured a 4-2 win over North Dakota State on March 13 in its home opener at Tal Anderson Field. The Mavericks improved their record to 5-10 overall and 1-0 in the Summit League, while the Bison fell to 2-15 and 0-1 in league play.
The game began with North Dakota State scoring first in the top of the opening inning. Omaha responded quickly, tying the score at 1-1 when Tyler Bishop reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Chase Diggins to score and Jackson Trout to advance.
North Dakota State regained a one-run lead in the fourth inning, but Hayden Lewis answered for Omaha with an RBI single that brought Nick Riggs home, evening the score at two runs each. Pitcher Maddox Meyer, who is on the College Baseball Foundation’s Pitcher of the Year Award Watch List, pitched six innings for Omaha, striking out five batters and allowing two runs and one walk before Cameron Teinert took over on the mound.
Omaha took control of the game in the seventh inning. Trout hit an RBI single that scored Henry Zipay for a 3-2 lead. Riggs then followed with a triple to right-center field, driving in Trout and extending Omaha’s advantage to two runs.
The Mavericks are scheduled to play North Dakota State again tomorrow at Tal Anderson Field in a doubleheader. The first game will start at 1 p.m., with game two beginning about 35 minutes after the conclusion of game one. Both games will be available for streaming on the Summit League Network.
