Omaha Baseball concluded its participation in the Gopher Tournament with a 6-4 loss to Minnesota on Sunday night at US Bank Stadium. The Mavericks, now holding a 4-10 record, scored four runs in the second inning after falling behind early.
Minnesota opened the scoring before Omaha responded in the second inning. Chase Diggins tied the game with a sacrifice fly that brought home Drew Borner. Henry Zipay then hit an RBI double to right field, scoring Hayden Lewis and giving Omaha a 2-1 lead.
Jackson Trout led Omaha’s offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBI doubles. Trout has accumulated 11 RBIs through 13 games this season.
Sam Beck started as pitcher for Omaha, allowing four runs on six hits and recording five strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Nick Riggs pitched two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout, followed by Oliver Mabee who worked one inning in relief. Nate Moquin closed out the game with two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.
Omaha will begin Summit League play from March 13 to March 15, hosting North Dakota State at Tal Anderson Field. The series opener is scheduled for a 4 p.m. CT first pitch.
