Omaha Baseball was defeated by Northwestern with a score of 9-6 on Saturday at the Gopher Tournament in Minneapolis. The Mavericks, now holding a 4-9 record, managed to score in each of the last four innings but could not close the gap against Northwestern, who improved to 6-6.
Jackson Trout stood out for Omaha’s offense, recording three doubles and scoring three runs. Cardel Dick also contributed with three hits and two runs batted in. The game saw both teams exchanging runs through much of the contest.
Omaha briefly took the lead in the fourth inning when Chase Diggins singled to bring home Trout, making it 1-0. However, Northwestern responded throughout their final five innings at bat. In the sixth inning, Dick hit an RBI double for Omaha, but Northwestern answered with a two-run home run to take a 5-2 advantage.
Trout and Sam Beck provided back-to-back RBI doubles in the seventh inning for Omaha; however, they left the tying run stranded in scoring position. Northwestern extended its lead by adding two more runs in their half of the seventh. Omaha’s remaining scores came from an RBI single by Edoardo Cornelli in the eighth and another single by Dick in the ninth.
