Omaha Men’s Tennis lost its conference opener to Oral Roberts, 5-2, in Tulsa on March 22. The Mavericks secured two points in singles play but were unable to overcome the Golden Eagles.

The match marks the start of conference competition for Omaha, which now holds an overall record of 8-9. Oral Roberts improved to 9-12 with the win.

In singles action, junior Caleb Peterson won a close contest at No. 6 after splitting two tiebreak sets with Jack Berry of Oral Roberts. With the team result already decided, a super tiebreak was played instead of a full third set; Peterson led throughout and won it 10-8. Graduate student Liam Spiers also picked up a victory for Omaha at No. 2 singles by defeating Luis Marcos Bonifasi in straight sets, taking the first set in a tiebreak and closing out the second set 6-4.

Spiers also found success in doubles alongside freshman Anthony Scheglowski, as they claimed their match at No. 2 doubles with a score of 6-3 against Cayden Cheek and Parv Nage from Oral Roberts.

The Mavericks will conclude their nonconference schedule this weekend with matches against Marquette on Friday, March 27 and Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday, March 29.
