Omaha Softball rose to second place in the week seven D1Softball Mid-Major Rankings, following a sweep of North Dakota State to start the Summit League schedule and homestand, according to a March 23 announcement. The Mavericks were also ranked third in the Softball America Mid-Major Poll.
The team has started the season with a record of 20-7. Omaha has hit home runs in 15 consecutive games and is currently on a four-game winning streak, having won six of its last seven contests.
Junior second baseman Katherine Johnson contributed significantly during the series against North Dakota State, driving in seven runs over eight at-bats. Johnson recorded four hits out of eight at-bats, including a home run, scored three times, and stole one base.
On the pitching side, junior left-handed pitcher Maddia Groff delivered 6.2 scoreless innings while allowing only two hits and holding opposing batters to an average of .087. Groff secured her seventh win of the season along with her first save.
