Omaha Women’s Tennis defeated Oral Roberts 6-1 at home on March 28. The Mavericks improved their record to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in the Summit League, while the Golden Eagles fell to 4-14 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

This win marks Omaha’s widest margin of victory over Oral Roberts since a similar result in 2018. The outcome highlights a strong performance for the Mavericks as they continue their season.

Freshman Shelby Smith secured the match for Omaha with a straight-set victory over Cassie Cervantes, winning 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles flight. It was Smith’s first full-match win since February. Sophomore Nina Wiese also had a notable performance, defeating Cecilia Franzin with a score of 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2 singles—her second singles win this season while dropping only one game.

In doubles action, Wiese and Katelynn Kock earned their seventeenth doubles win of the spring by defeating Franzin and Ava Goodell from Oral Roberts with a score of 6-3. This achievement ties them for fourth place in single-season doubles wins among Omaha players.

“Great win today,” head coach Adam Summitt said. “We played one of our more complete matches in the last month. Oral Roberts can be a feisty team, and I thought we did a great job controlling the flow of the matches. We need to stretch this level of tennis out for the remaining matches, as every opponent will be a challenge in its own right.”

The Mavericks will go on the road next for three matches starting at North Dakota on April 4.
