Omaha Women’s Tennis lost to Drake University 4-3 in a road match held Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. The Mavericks held a 3-1 advantage during the singles portion of the competition but were unable to secure the win as Drake won the final three singles matches.

Sophomore Katelynn Kock, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, contributed one of Omaha’s singles victories by defeating Jordane Dookie at No. 3 singles. Kock won in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-0, marking her tenth singles win of the spring season.

Another sophomore, Nina Wiese from Flushing, New York, also recorded a singles victory for Omaha at No. 2. Wiese took the first set against Shiori Takeda 6-1. Although Takeda pushed the second set to a tiebreaker at 6-6, Wiese prevailed with a 7-4 tiebreak win.

In doubles play, Omaha earned wins in two out of three matches. The pairings of Nina Wiese and Katelynn Kock as well as Khayli Buckels and Summer Shannon each secured victories for Omaha.

Drake’s comeback was highlighted by wins from Kristina Tai over Jacqueline Pearsall (No. 4), Elizabete Klavinska over Shelby Smith (No. 5), and Milana Dejanovic over Grace Greenwald (No. 6).

The Mavericks now have an overall record of 7-7 this season while Drake improves to 4-7.

Omaha is scheduled to travel to St. Louis next weekend for matches against Lindenwood on Friday, March 13 and Saint Louis on Saturday, March 14.
