Senior Erika Perez tied a school record with three doubles as the Creighton Bluejays softball team defeated Seattle University 11-8 on March 27 at the Creighton Softball Stadium.
The win brings Creighton’s season record to 17-18, while Seattle drops to 14-18. The game was marked by strong offensive performances from both teams, but Perez led the Bluejays with three hits and three doubles. Teammates West and Barnard each added two hits and two runs batted in. Junior Brooklyn Patchen earned her fourth win of the season for Creighton, pitching three innings and striking out four batters. Sophomore Landrie Harris recorded her first save of the year.
Seattle took an early lead in the second inning, scoring four runs including a two-run home run by Karen Spadafora. However, Creighton responded in their half of the inning with six runs on just three hits, taking advantage of walks and hit batters to move ahead 6-4. The rally included an RBI double from Perez and a two-run double from West.
Creighton extended its lead over the next few innings. Freshman Keegan Mayhue hit her seventh home run of the season in the third inning, while Vandewater contributed a two-run double in the fourth. By the fifth inning, singles from Barnard and fielding errors helped push Creighton’s advantage to 11-4.
Seattle narrowed the gap late in the game with RBI doubles from Avari Morris and Ava Sin in the sixth inning and a solo home run by Mikee Morris in the seventh, but Harris closed out for Creighton’s victory.
The series between Creighton and Seattle concludes Saturday morning.
