Rep. Don Bacon, who has represented Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since 2017, recently addressed issues ranging from domestic budget negotiations to international energy independence in a series of posts on his official social media account.
On October 2, 2025, Bacon called for bipartisan cooperation in Congress over funding measures and healthcare policy. He stated, “We need to pass the bipartisan clean CR so we can negotiate ACA subsidies. Most Republicans are ready to negotiate and strike a fair deal that protects middle and low-income families, not wealthy earners.”
Turning to foreign affairs later that evening, Bacon highlighted the efforts of Baltic nations to achieve energy independence from Russia. On October 3, he posted, “Lithuania along with Latvia and Estonia have made the tough hard choices to gain their energy independence from Putin and Russia. They have showed courage and they have prevailed. They set the standard.”
In another post on October 3, Bacon responded critically to an unspecified figure with the statement: “Says the man who murders his political opponents.”
Bacon’s remarks reflect ongoing legislative debates in Washington over short-term government funding bills—known as continuing resolutions (CRs)—and Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidy negotiations. His comments also reference recent geopolitical developments in Eastern Europe, where Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia have sought to reduce dependence on Russian energy following regional security concerns.
A former resident of Momence, Illinois born in 1963, Bacon now lives in Papillion and holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
