Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed issues of national security and defense spending in a series of posts on September 1, 2025.

In his first post at 12:43 UTC, Bacon referenced ongoing concerns among GOP veterans regarding the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan: ‘Worst thing I’ve ever seen’: 4 years later, GOP veterans say Biden’s Afghanistan withdrawal still haunts them. https://t.co/ztHrodzDkO.

Shortly after, at 12:46 UTC, Bacon commented on the situation in Ukraine and U.S.-Russia relations. He stated: “Putin is stringing President Trump along and the added time is helping Russia to continue the bombing campaign against Ukrainian cities,” Don Bacon said in a Friday statement to Fox News Digital. https://t.co/g8cJc656DP.

Later that morning at 13:42 UTC, Bacon discussed U.S. defense spending relative to other nations and advocated for an increase: Per share of GDP, United States is #7 of 31 when it comes to defense spending. Those bordering Russia are spending the most knowing that Putin poses a clear threat to their sovereignty. The United States should be at 4% of GDP and we need to meet this target ASAP. https://t.co/duyISN91HO.

Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in Congress in 2017 and currently resides in Papillion. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, he holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
