Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed constituents and national political issues in a series of posts on July 21, 2025.
On that day, Bacon invited the public to participate in his latest virtual town hall event. In his tweet at 14:09 UTC, he wrote: “TODAY: Join me for my second townhall of the 119th Congress at 6:30 PM CT! Due to high interest, we’ll be using a tele-townhall format. Call in at 855-962-1225 or sign up via our website at https://t.co/euOj7t4fUe. I look forward to hearing from you!”
Shortly after, Bacon commented on the current state of American politics. At 14:15 UTC he posted: “Our politics today are too much like ‘shirts vs skins’ mentality. One has to defend their team and attack the other no matter what. We need more country over party spirit if we want to make long-term progress on most significant issues. Bipartisan solutions last.”
Later that afternoon, Bacon referenced constitutional principles regarding Congressional authority over fiscal matters. At 15:10 UTC he tweeted: “Article One Section Eight gives Congress the power over taxes and tariffs. The Constitution is clear. Our Founders created checks and balances for a reason.”
Bacon has served as U.S. Representative for Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and resides in Papillion after being born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 (Fact 1, Fact 2, Fact 3). He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA in 1984 and also attended the University of Phoenix (Fact 4).
