Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed several topics in recent social media posts, ranging from local conservation efforts to national security and international affairs.
On July 28, 2025, Bacon expressed appreciation for a local institution: “Thank you to the Omaha Zoo for welcoming our guests, Baroness Owen of Alderley Edge and @PeterABedford. Our zoo is a crown jewel of Nebraska, leading critical conservation efforts and protecting endangered species for future generations.”
Later that day, Bacon highlighted concerns about national security following discussions with Nancy G. Brinker: “I thank @NancyGBrinker for an important discussion on protecting our national security, from strengthening our cyber defenses to safeguarding U.S. farmland. We need better data on foreign purchases near our strategic military installations to protect our interests.”
Turning his attention to global issues on July 29, Bacon commented on Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine: “The Russian leadership invaded a sovereign nation and neighbor who wanted peace. Their decision cost a million Russian casualties. The world sees Putin’s war crimes everyday. Russia should cease its invasion now, because the costs for Russia will only get worst.”
Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd district in Congress since succeeding Brad Ashford in 2017. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently residing in Papillion, Bacon graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 before earning another degree from the University of Phoenix.
