Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, recently posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing issues ranging from free speech to economic policy.
On September 19, 2025, Bacon referenced an event hosted by Georgetown’s Free Speech Project, writing: “Georgetown’s Free Speech Project, which researches the state of free speech across the United States, hosted the event, aiming to highlight how Bacon has been vocal about his beliefs amid increasing political polarization.” The post indicated that further coverage was available through The Hoya.
Later that day, Bacon addressed concerns over tariffs and their impact on consumers. In a post dated September 19, 2025, he stated: “Families are feeling the cost of higher coffee prices. Tariffing a product we can’t grow at a large, commercial scale, only makes it worse. Article One of the Constitution makes clear Congress has authority over tariffs. Our bipartisan bill begins to reclaim that authority.”
The following day, September 20, 2025, Bacon commented on media freedom and government influence in journalism. He wrote: “This is so dumb that I have a hard time believing it is true. We don’t want a bunch of Pravda newspapers only touting the Government’s official position. A free press makes our country better. This sounds like more amateur hour.”
Bacon has served as the representative for Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017 and resides in Papillion after being born in Momence, Illinois in 1963. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
