Rep. Don Bacon, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district, has expressed his views on several issues through recent social media posts. Bacon, who succeeded Brad Ashford in 2017, has been vocal about healthcare funding, international relations, and cybersecurity.
On July 3rd, Rep. Bacon addressed claims regarding a bill related to rural healthcare funding. He criticized what he described as “hyperbole and demagoguery,” referring to assertions that a clinic was closing due to legislation that had not yet passed. Bacon highlighted that their proposed bill includes an additional $50 billion for rural healthcare, stating that “Americans see through the dishonesty.” “Lies don’t convince me nor most people.”
In another post on the same day, Rep. Bacon discussed Ukraine’s geopolitical situation and its implications for U.S. national security interests. He emphasized the importance of supporting an independent Ukraine embracing democracy and free markets while countering Russia’s invasion efforts: “An Ukraine that is independent…is in our national security interests.” He critiqued those who appeared uninformed about these stakes.
Later that day, Rep. Bacon addressed cyber threats from China and Russia against the United States’ critical infrastructure sectors such as energy grids and hospitals. He called for increased measures to impose significant consequences on these nations for their ongoing cyber attacks: “We should do more to impose heavy costs on both.”
Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and residing in Papillion, Don Bacon graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BA before furthering his education at the University of Phoenix.
