Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed challenges facing the Midwest agricultural economy in a series of posts on October 8, 2025.
In his first post, Bacon wrote: “The Midwest AG economy is facing brutal headwinds with low commodity prices & high input costs. Thus far, tariffs have not resulted in more AG exports, but less. This is why making E-15 available all year long is needed right now. This provides a great market for our grain & is a” (October 8, 2025).
Later that day, he added: “Farmers don’t want federal subsidies, but want more access to international markets and more biofuel utilization.” (October 8, 2025).
In a subsequent post referencing former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s economic philosophy, Bacon stated: “As Thatcher pointed out, the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people’s money.” (October 8, 2025).
Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since replacing Brad Ashford in Congress in 2017. He was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. His educational background includes degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
