Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed several issues in a series of posts on October 15, 2025, including military health concerns, government funding, and press access at the Pentagon.
In a post from October 15, Bacon highlighted legislation he sponsored regarding Air Force missile crews, stating, “My legislation that passed the House brings in outside medical experts to study the cancer rates of AF intercontinental ballistic missile crews. We need definitive answers to whether the rates are higher and if linked to their jobs. Our airmen deserve the truth and future”.
Later that day, Bacon commented on government funding negotiations, referencing a quote from former President Obama. He wrote, “Pres. Obama once said, ‘One faction of one party in one house of Congress in one branch of government doesn’t get to shut down the entire government.’ @HouseGOP voted 99% to keep the government open with a bipartisan clean CR that Dems supported 13 times. 98% of Dems voted no.”
In an additional post, Bacon addressed comments made by the Secretary of Defense about media access at the Pentagon. He stated, “SECDEF’s claim that media had unfettered Pentagon access is misleading. I was stationed there twice & saw firsthand media accessed hallways & cafeterias, not offices or classified areas with sensitive national security information. We must cherish freedom of the press & speech.”
Bacon, who was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion, has served in Congress since replacing Brad Ashford in 2017. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
