Rep. Don Bacon, a U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, posted several messages on his social media account between October 11 and October 12, 2025, addressing military pay, government shutdowns, sports victories, and religious freedom in China.
On October 11, Bacon commented on the issue of military pay during a government shutdown. He wrote, “Not paying our service-members is never the right choice. Many junior ranking folks live paycheck to paycheck. The President was forced to take this action after Senate Dems voted 8 times to shut government down and not pay the military.”
Later that evening, he celebrated a sporting event with the message: “It was a tough, gritty win! We will take it!” (October 11).
The following day, Bacon addressed religious freedoms in China by stating: “It is a reminder that the CCP has no Freedom of Religion.” (October 12).
Bacon’s comments reflect ongoing debates in Congress regarding budget negotiations and defense funding. Government shutdowns have historically threatened timely payment for service members when appropriations lapse. In recent years, partisan disagreements have led to multiple standoffs over federal spending bills.
In his remarks about China’s Communist Party (CCP), Bacon referenced concerns raised by international human rights organizations regarding restrictions on religious practices within China.
Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 with a BA and also attended the University of Phoenix.
