Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, posted several statements on his social media account on August 11, 2025, addressing topics related to foreign policy and historical events.
In one post at 20:05 UTC, Bacon wrote: “Bring them home!”
Later that evening at 21:31 UTC, he commented on Russia’s actions and NATO’s role by stating: “Ding, ding, ding. This is the dumbest post of the day.
Russia has expanded its borders nine times by force since 1991. Russia’s neighbors want to be in NATO to protect their people from Russian imperialism. NATO is a defensive alliance.”
At 23:04 UTC on the same day, Bacon referenced Mao Zedong’s historical record with the statement: “Mao killed approximately 60 million of his own people in the name of Communism.”
Don Bacon was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix. Before joining Congress, he succeeded Brad Ashford as representative for Nebraska’s 2nd district.
