Rep. Don Bacon, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed several topics in a series of posts on August 8, 2025. His statements focused on redistricting in Nebraska, the renaming of military bases, and legislation related to federal law enforcement protections.
In his first post on August 8, Bacon responded to coverage about his role in Nebraska’s recent redistricting process: “I need to correct this story. Addressing another issue later that day, Bacon commented on changes to U.S. military base names and their historical context: “Confederates & Jim Crow state governments who gave us these base names were not Republican. Congress voted to change the base names over a Presidential veto. Contrary to @SecDef’s statement, the names Eisenhower, Benavidez & Hal Moore are not woke.”
He also discussed legislative matters regarding federal law enforcement protection: “The Back the Blue Act creates new criminal provisions regarding the killing of, or attempting, or conspiring to kill federal law enforcement officers, U.S. judges, and federally funded public safety officers. This includes firefighters, chaplains, and members of a rescue squad or”
Don Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District in Congress since defeating Brad Ashford in 2017 and resides in Papillion after being born in Momence, Illinois in 1963. He holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
