Rep. Don Bacon, who represents Nebraska’s 2nd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of updates on social media regarding education funding, recognition of heroism during natural disasters, and constituent engagement.

On July 22, 2025, Rep. Bacon called for the release of funds to public schools by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). He wrote: “I strongly urge OMB to release the appropriated money to our public schools. If funding is not released, Millard Public Schools in Omaha would face an unexpected burden of nearly $900K. OMB is causing hardships all over the country for our local schools.” This message highlights concerns about potential financial challenges faced by school districts if federal funding is delayed.

Later that day, Bacon acknowledged Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan’s efforts during recent Texas floods. In his post, he stated: “Today we recognized Coast Guard Petty Officer Scott Ruskan for saving 165 people during the Texas floods. He said, ‘I’m just a dude and anyone would have done the same if given the opportunity.’ We salute Scott Ruskan.”

The following morning, on July 23, 2025, Bacon thanked constituents for their participation in a virtual town hall meeting: “We had over 7,600 participate in our virtual town hall. We thank those who joined and for sharing opinions and concerns.”

Don Bacon has served as Nebraska’s 2nd district representative since 2017 after succeeding Brad Ashford. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and now residing in Papillion, Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
