Later that day, at 16:54 UTC, Bacon directly addressed the situation in Ukraine with the following statement: “Baloney. Ukrainians don’t want be enslaved by Russia and are fighting with their lives to defend their country. They need our weapons and intel to prevail. Meanwhile, China, Iran and North Korea are helping Russia. We have no time for Putin apologists.”
Bacon’s remarks come amid continued debate in Congress over U.S. support for Ukraine as it resists Russian military aggression. The congressman emphasized the necessity of American assistance to Ukraine and criticized those who defend Russian interests.
Don Bacon has served as the representative for Nebraska’s 2nd District since succeeding Brad Ashford in 2017. He was born in Momence, Illinois in 1963 and currently resides in Papillion. Bacon holds degrees from Northern Illinois University and the University of Phoenix.
