Rep. Don Bacon, U.S. Congressman representing Nebraska’s 2nd district since 2017, addressed a range of domestic and international issues in a series of social media posts published on September 2 and 3, 2025.
On September 2, Bacon highlighted concerns about violent crime rates in major U.S. cities compared to his home region. He wrote, “Our big cities have a huge violent crime problem that we should be working together to solve. Chicago’s murder rate of 22 per 100K is more than 5x than Omaha. Instead of fighting each other, we should be working together to fix it. We love living in the Omaha area.”
In a subsequent post on September 3, Bacon commented on Japan’s growing military capabilities and the importance of maintaining strong alliances in Asia: “Japan speaks softly while their stick keeps getting larger. Japan is growing a formidable combat punch. We need close ties with our Japanese ally if we want to deter China.”
Later the same day, Bacon addressed the ongoing hostage situation involving Hamas: “Tell Hamas to give up the hostages they’ve had for nearly two years and this will get resolved.”
Bacon has represented Nebraska’s 2nd District since succeeding Brad Ashford in 2017 and currently resides in Papillion. Born in Momence, Illinois in 1963, he graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1984 and also holds a degree from the University of Phoenix.
